Salary: £27,717 - £30,066 per annum, based on 37 hours per week

Working Hours: 1686 Annualised (Average of 37 hours per week) *Note: Contracted working hours based on under 5 years’ service after deduction of annual leave and public holiday entitlement (25 days annual leave plus 8 public holidays) 

Working Pattern – to be agreed with line manager but will average at 37 hours per week over a year and will typically be between 35 and 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend and Bank Holiday work may be required, paid in accordance with Council Policy.

Leicestershire County Council is looking to recruit a Waste Management Technician to assist with the management of waste operations and its Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS) and Waste Transfer Stations (WTS). 

About the Role

The successful candidate will be primarily based at County Hall and Whetstone RHWS and WTS, but may be required to support the operations at all its RHWSs and WTSs. 

Candidates must be self-motivated, hard-working, willing to learn and have good customer care skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the recycling and household waste sites, waste transfer stations and relevant waste contracts, including the operation of the Councils weighbridges and carrying out service standard and duty of care checks.

About You

To apply for this post, you must have:

  • A knowledge of Waste Management
  • To be able to prioritise and plan workloads and have good organisational skills. 
  • To be objective and able to cope with conflicting demands.
  • To have good communication skills including the ability to negotiate, resolve issues and to achieve successful outcomes and to be able to effectively engage with customers and stakeholders in resolving issues.
  • A valid relevant Certificate of Technical Competence or the desire, willingness and ability to work towards gaining this qualification within a reasonable time. 
  • A valid Level 3 First Aid at Work- First Response or equivalent qualification 
  • To be computer literate and familiar with MS Office or equivalent packages, competent in the use of spreadsheets; managing financial and numerical data and producing reports.
  • The ability to travel to locations across the County as required (access to an appropriate vehicle with business use insurance).
